Think Like an
Entrepreneur to Open New Paths
I was honored last month to receive an award as one of the Top 50
entrepreneurs in Charlotte, NC.
That got me thinking about entrepreneurship in general.
Being a Thought Leader Takes Thought!
Entrepreneurs often have to be thought leaders in order to
advance their mission and frankly, get noticed.
As healthcare organizations look to establish their
thought leadership, whether in blogs or elsewhere,
this Marketing Profs article provides some food for thought.
Top Rated Hospitals Don't Always Have Superior Outcomes
On the heels of Health Grades latest Top 50 Hospital release and
our article on health care ratings last month comes this.
A
study published in the January issue of the Journal of the
American College of Surgeons compares the 30-day mortality rate in
2008 for 50 cardiovascular hospitals at the top of U.S. News and World
Report's "America's Best Hospitals" and HealthGrades' "America's 50 Best
Hospitals" lists with the mortality rates of more than 4,400 hospitals
nationwide
for patients undergoing certain cardiovascular surgeries.
The study indicates that after taking hospital volume into consideration,
hospitals recognized by U.S. News and World Report
did not have dramatically lower 30-day mortality rates than other
hospitals,
and among HealthGrades hospitals, the difference in outcomes
between hospitals could be attributed to volume.
HARVARD ARTICLE ALERT!
What's the Best Way to Make
Careful Decisions
Many of you read our
Hospital Impact blog on why Steve Jobs
should run healthcare reform! Part of the contention was that Jobs uses
instinct and intuition to make decisions. Entrepreneurs often do.
There is no right or wrong here and this article sheds some further light on
decision-making, something healthcare organizations have a hard time
getting without first watering down the decisions choices as to be
ineffective.
Satisfied Patients
(Residents) Lower Risk and Improve the Bottom Line
This is an interesting article that espouses that healthcare
organizations need to be complaint eliciting organizations because
only if you know what is wrong can you improve. I commented on this
and related issues in
this video blog.
