The Health Care Advisory Board Looks at Reform

One of my clients was kind enough to invite me to a presentation to his board and physicians by the Health Care Advisory Board. It was pretty fascinating. Here are some top-level items of interest.

Defining Your Marketing Opportunity Will Help You Define Your Niche

This article should get you thinking about today and tomorrow’s challenge in building your market and is a great complement to our health care reform discussion.

CRM Provides Opportunity But Be Careful

CRM can be a great tool not just for marketing but tying into the medical home, preventive care and wellness. It can help customize experiences, which can be a choice differentiator down the line.
But I have seen this tool backfire if not used correctly.

Who Are Health Care Ads Aimed At?

And now back to the reality of how we market today. This article, which happens to feature hospitals in my hometown of Philly, contends that hospital advertising is not aimed at consumers but payers. Unless I am in need of a hip replacement now I am not going to pay attention to this advertising. Agreed. But if it is creeping in my psyche over time and then I need the care well maybe it plays a part. That then drives demand to those hospitals investing in the advertising. That demand, the contention is, helps providers leverage insurers and demand more money. I don’t think that argument will fly under reform at all at least from a payment standpoint. Could it have a subliminal effect on payers as they start to figure out the accountable care organization they will select? Again I am doubtful as they will have hard clinical and cost data to analyze to make their decisions. So by now you probably know my position on all this! But then Social Media has Changed Advertising

And on the heels of that article is this terrific post. In 2010, social media has introduced the advertising business to its next big disruption. But this time the state of the advertising business is quite different. Advertising is struggling to recapture relevance. It is mired in murky fee-based compensation systems, dealing with loss of control and trying to keep up with the accelerating pace of media dispersion. Great perspective. Should make you think twice on your advertising mentality and maybe more so your advertising message.

New Keynote / Workshop - Leadership Lessons from the Serengeti!

Dr. Doolittle wanted to talk to the animals. We can do a lot by learning from them. There is a great symbiotic relationship among the animals in the wild. And they can teach us a lot about teamwork and leadership.

Using dramatic footage shot in the Serengeti on a safari, Anthony will share lessons about leadership in an interactive and fun session. We’ll talk about the visionary giraffe, the comforting zebra, the protector elephant and of course the lion who puts his foot
                                                             down when needed.

Combining footage, customized parody songs (think the Lion King), group breakouts and lecture, this fast paced program will look at leadership from a truly different landscape. Curious? Check out our video.
